Official Wilson Pacific Coast League - mint condition in box
$150
The Pacific Coast League (PCL) is a minor-league operating in the Western, Midwestern and Southeastern United States. Along with the International League and the Mexican League, it is one of three leagues playing at the Triple-A level, which is one step below Major League Baseball. In 1952, the PCL became the only minor league in history to be given the "Open" classification, a step above the AAA level. This limited the rights of major league clubs to draft players from the PCL, and was seen as a step toward the circuit becoming a third major league. The shift to the "Open" classification came just as minor league teams from coast to coast suffered a sharp drop in attendance, primarily due to the availability of major league games on television. The hammer blow to the PCL's major league dreams came in 1958, when the Brooklyn Dodgers moved to Los Angeles and the New York Giants moved to San Francisco. As a result, three of the PCL's flagship teams were immediately forced to relocate to smaller markets. The league never recovered from these blows. The Pacific Coast League reverted to AAA classification in 1958, and soon diminished in the public eye to nothing more than another minor league.   This ball is in mint condition in an unopened box.

RARE - Wilson American Association Baseball in original box - mint condition
$2,300
The American Association (AA) was a Major League that existed from 1882 to 1891. During that time, it challenged the National League (NL) for dominance of professional baseball. Together with the NL, the AA participated in an early version of the World Series seven times. What weakened the AA was that teams would jump to the National League. The most significant blow to the AA was dealt by the Players' League, a third major league fromed in 1890 which siphoned off talent and gate receipts. In a rare historical oddity, the Brooklyn Bridegrooms (now the Los Angeles Dodgers) won the league's championship and represented the AA in the 1889 World Series, switched to the NL during the off-season, and then repeated the same feat. The American Association evolved into what is now the National League and was reformed as  a minor league baseball league at tye Triple-A level from 1902 to 1962. (Collectors Digest 1995 Price Guide shows A.A. balls Nr-Mint valued at $1200 in 1995.)
