11 x 17 autographed poster of Phillies HOFer Richie Ashburn. Around the top and sides of the photo are Richie's baseball cards thru the years. A beautiful color limited edition portrait of Richie that was painted by famed sports artist Dick Perez and distributed in 1995 to commemorate Richie's Hall of Fame induction. On the back are Richie's career stats. He was voted in by the Veterans Committee. Why he was never voted in by the sportswriters is a mystery. With a .308 lifetime batting average, almost 2,600 hits, 2 NL batting titles, 6 All Star game appearances and a consecutive game playing streak of 720 games, you'd think he'd be a shoe-in.

Of course they are now the Oakland A's as this game was held on June 6, 2003 at Veterans Stadium in Phila, a place where none of the 9 former A's attendees ever played. The 9 signees are from left to right: Bobby Shantz, Carl Scheib, Lou Limmer, Eddie Joost, Forrest "Spook" Jacobs, Irv Hall, Al Brancato, Joe Astroth And Gus "Ozark Ike" Zernial. This is a poster advertising the new card set of the former Philadelphia A's player by artist Ron Joyner. This set was commissioned by the A's Historical Sociey and is a limited edition. Starting out with a 33 card set it also come to add "Shoeless" Joe Jackson to the set who spent the 1908 and 1909 seasons with the Phila A's and then Cleveland before being caught up in the "Black Sox" scandal of 1919. This is artist Ron Joyner's Historical Card Set of the Philadelphia A's players thru the years. The set covers players 1901 to 1954 when the A's left Philadelphia and moved to Kansas City. This is a 46 cards set shown here and it is autographed by 33 of the former A's players. This is a short run set that is very scarce and is a great collectible. The Connie Mack Card #1 in the set is signed by his daughter Ruth Mack Clark.

"LEFTY" O'DOUL - Autograph & Photo

This is a cut signature of Francis Joseph "Lefty" O'Doul who started his career in New York with the Yankees in 1919 and ended it 15 years later in New York but with the Giants in the NL. He is 4th all time in career batting average with .349 lifetime. He went on to have an extraordinary minor league managing career. He is also credited with spreading baseball's popularity in Japan, serving as the sport's goodwill ambassador before and after World War II. The Tokyo Giants, sometimes considered "Japan's Baseball Team," were named by him in 1935 in honor of his longtime association with the New York Giants. This signature and photo are framed and matted.   

JAMES "Cool Papa" BELL - Autograph & Photo

This is a cut signature of Negro Leagues star James "Cool Papa" Bell, a centerfielder and considered by many baseball observers to have been one of the fastest men ever to play the game. He started his career with the St. Louis Stars in 1922 and finished with the Kansas City Stars in 1950. He had a .337 lifetime batting average in the Negro Leagues. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974.

This is a great 8 x 10 B/W photo of Philadelphia A's lefty Bobby Shantz striking out Jackie Robinson in the 1952 All-Star game played in Shibe Park (Connie Mack Stadium) on June 8th, 1952. Jackie Robinson was the second of three consecutive hitters that Shantz struck out in a row: Whitey Lockman (1B) of the NY Giants, Jackie Robinson (SS) of the Brooklyn Dodgers, and Stan Musial (OF) for the St. Louis Cardinals. Bobby Shantz was one of 3 A's players selected to the All-Star game that year along with teammates Ferris Fain (1B) and Eddie Joost (SS). The Phillies also had 3 players selected that year: Robin Roberts (P), Curt Simmons (P), & Granny Hamner (SS). In all six players from two Philadelphia teams were picked. The game resulted in the National League defeating the American League 3-2 in 5 innings. It was the first All-Star Game to be called early due to rain. You can actually see the ball as it approaches the plate. A beautifully captured photo of baseballs past. It is framed - not matted.

Phillies 1980 World Champions AUTOGRAPHED poster

This is a 34 x 26 professionally matted and framed poster of the entire 1980 Phillies team autographed by the entire team of players and coaches. The only exception is Nino Espinosa, who died in 1987 before the poster was created. There are 33 signatures in all. This is the first team in Phillies history to win a World Series. It only took 96 years!   
These posters are not easily found totally signed and in such great condition.

It also includes a tribute to Mike Schmidt and player stats as well as team leaders throughout the years. The photo on the left is Phillies Hall of Famer Richie Ashburn shown in a fielding position and autographed by Richie. The on the right is a RARE shot of Curt Simmons and Robin Roberts hugging each other. Roberts & Simmons were the Phillies one-two right handed and left handed punch of the starting rotation in the late 40's and early 50's. They helped win the 1950 NL Pennant and take the Phils to their first World Series in 35 years. Unfortunately, Curt Simmons who was in the Reserves at the time and was called to active duty and didn't get to play in that World Series. Both photos are 8 x 10 and unframed.

These are two sketches by artist Ted Walker of Phillies ROBIN ROBERTS and CURT SIMMONS. Ted Walker also did sketches of the Philadelphia A's players since his uncle Tom Walker was a member of the A's. He did sketches of other major league baseball players as well as football and other sports. These are beautiful, one of a kind prints suitable for framing and display. They are both autographed. CAIN Pitching to "Midget" - Autographed

In 1951, always the showman, owner of the St. Louis Browns Bill Veeck signed a "little person" to a major league contract. On August 19, 1951 the Browns sent 3' 7" Eddie Gaedel to bat as a pinch hitter against the Detroit Tigers in the second game of a double header. The Browns had a uniform specially made for him and the umpires asked him to produce a contract to prove that he was really on the roster, which he did, and the umpire yelled "Play Ball" and baseball history was made. The player who had the unenviable task of pitching to a player with such a small strike zone was Bob Cain. Cain missed with 4 straight balls and walked Gaedel. A pinch runner was sent in and the next day "midgets" were banned from the game. This card is signed by the Browns pitcher: "Best Wishes Bob Cain."

This a very rare if not one of a kind photo of basketball great Michael Jordan in his Chicago White Sox uniorm when he retired from basketball in Oct 1993. Michael Jordan then surprised the world when he signed a minor league baseball contract with the Chicago White Sox in 1994 saying his father always wanted him to be a major league baseball player so he was following that dream. He fared pretty well in minor league baseball but his talent was in basketball and he returned to the Chicago Bulls in 1995. This is an 8 X 10 B/W photo of Michael in his Chicago minor league uniformed and is autographed by him. VERY RARE! This comes matted and framed.

This is an 8x10 B/W photo beautifully matted and framed to 11x14 signed by all 3 Dimaggio brothers. The oldest, Vince, played in the National League with the Boston Braves, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and the Phillies from 1937 to 1946. Joe DiMaggio played his entire career with the Yankees from 1936 to 1951. The youngest, Dom, "The Little Professor," also spent his entire career with one team, the Boston Red Sox, from 1940 to 1953. "A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN" - Autographed

This poster is of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League which inspired the movie "A League of Their Own." It is autographed by 8 of the women players from different teams from this professional women's league. The best known team, thanks to the movie, is the Rockford Peaches. It also shows the names of the other teams and a schedule at the bottom of the poster. Some of the other teams in the league included the Kenosha Comets, Grand Rapids Chicks, South Bend Blue Sox, Chicago Colleens, Racine Belles, Muskegon Lassies, Peoria Redwings, Fort Wayne Daisies, Minneapolis Millerettes, Milwaukee Chicks, Battle Creek Belles, Kalamazoo Lassies, Springfield Sallies, & Battle Creek Belles. These are the only women inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. This is a beautiful piece of RARE baseball history.

Lavonne "Pepper" Paire Davis played with the Minneapolis Millerettes, Fort Wayne Daisies, Racine Belles and Grand Rapids Chicks as catcher from 1944 to 1952. She was portrayed by actress Brenda Ferrari as the Racine Belles catcher in the movie "A League of Their Own." She was also a technical consultant to director Penny Marshall during the filming of "A League of Their Own."
This is an 8x10 B/W photo beautifully matted and framed to 11x14 and signed by Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams and Dom DiMaggio. A great addition to anyone's collection.

BOBBY SHANTZ Autographed Golf Styles Magazine

This is a copy of Golf Styles Magazine, a local Philadelphia magazine, that contained an article of baseball great Bobby Shantz. If you notice on the cover of the magazine you see a golfball inside of a baseball. That's because Bobby was not only a great pitcher but also a very accomplished golfer. He carried a single digit handicap until he about 80 years old. His weekly Monday morning routine was to play private matches with the owners of Limekiln Golf Course in Horsham, PA. Those owners were none other than Hall of Famer Robin Roberts and his left handed Whiz Kids counterpart Curt Simmons. At 86, Bobby still plays today although admits, "trying to keep a single digit handicap is much more difficult." The magazine is autographed by Bobby on the page where his article appears. Signed with his name and 1952 A.L. MVP. Another unique item not to be found anywhere else.

This is a beautiful print of some of Philadelphia's greatest athletes from 4 major sports. It shows 15 of the city's greatest players. Pictured from L to R in back row are Wilt Chamberlain, Tom Gola, Bobby Clarke, Chuck Bednarik, Bernie Parent, Steve Carlton, Paul Arizin. Seated: Robin Roberts, Steve Van Buren, Tommy McDonald, Connie Mac, Richie Ashburn, (Dr. J) Julius Erving, Bobby Shantz and Mike Schmidt. It should be noted that 5 of the 15 were local area products. Wilt Chamberlain, Tom Gola and Paul Arizin were all born in Philadelphia while Bobby Shantz was born in Pottstown, PA and Chuck Bednarik was born in Bethlehem, PA. This print is signed by 10 of the 15 shown. The signers are: Tom Gola, Chuck Bednarik, Bernie Parent, Steve Carlton, Paul Arizin, Robin Roberts, Steve Van Buren, Tommy McDonald, Bobby Shantz and Mike Schmidt. All fifteen pictured are Hall of Famers in their respective sports. This print is matted to an 11 x 14 size. It is not framed.

From R to L: John Kruk (1899 home), Tommy Greene (1915 road), Lenny Dykstra (1925 home), Terry Mulholland (1938 home), Darren Daulton (1942 road), Mitch Williams (1948 home), Wes Chamberlain (1950 home), Larry Bowa (1970 road), Dale Murphy (1980 home), and Mariano Duncan (1992 road). The Terry Mulholland autograph is hard to come by since he lives in Arizona and does very few autograph shows anywhere. The Dale Murphy autograph is equally hard to obtain for much the same reasons and the Lenny Dykstra autograph is impossible to obtain for some time until he is released from jail. It is in excellent condition and comes framed.
