1950 Phillies vs Yankees World Series Ticket - Game 1
$225
This is an original 1950 World Series ticket stub for Game 1 of the 1950 World Series between the Phillies Whiz Kids and the NY Yankees. The Yanks won the series 4 games to 0 but they were closely contested games with 3 of the 4 being decided by just one run and the final game by 3 runs. The Phillies ace Robin Roberts couldn't start the opening game because he had just pitched 3 games in 5 days including the pennant clincher, so manager Eddie Sawyer started his bull-pen ace Jim Konstanty who pitched 8 great innings but lost 1-0. The Phils pitched Roberts in game 2 but gave him no run support and they lost 2-1 in 10 innings. They dropped game 3 by a score of 3-2 when they gave up single runs in the 8th and 9th innings. Game 4 was a 5-2 loss that ended the series. The ticket is an actual ticket stub, NOT a copy, for Game 1 at Shibe Park as it was still called. Ticket price then $6.50. It is in excellent condition.
